Wilderness Therapy
Wilderness Therapy embraces the wilds and beauty of the outdoors and incorporates our natural surroundings into our therapeutic change.
What does this mean?
We will work together outside. This could be ‘walk and talk’ where the simple act of being outside provides our counselling, mentoring or supervision ‘room’ for our session.
Or we can bring the landscape into our sessions and work with it to help you understand more about yourself.
How will we do this?
We might try what it’s like to walk on different surfaces. To risk taking new paths. To reflect on the growth and decay, or to build and break down defences and dams. Where we go and what we do follows what you want to explore.
I’m a bit nervous about what this would be like…
That’s okay! Trying new things does feel overwhelming and exciting and risky. This is part of our work together. Everything will be held at your pace and before we go anywhere outside we will have a session together to understand how we will hold it right for you.
Why wilderness?
I love the word and it describes the therapeutic and natural landscape so well. Nature and eco-therapy are also terms you might see, but for me, wilderness implies potential and open horizons. It opens us up beyond expectations.
Where do you work?
I offer wilderness therapy on north Dartmoor. Sessions at other locations can be arranged but may have an additional charge.
Can I try and see without committing to anything long term?
Absolutely. We would have at least one session together online before meeting outdoors, and there’s no obligation to sign up beyond that. Just get in touch if you’d like to discuss further!
